The Brazilian Army is set to receive 50 US Army-surplus tracked armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) this year. The acquisition comprises 34 BAE Systems' M577A2 command post vehicles, 12 M113A2 personnel carriers, and four M88A1 recovery vehicles. This is part of the Brazilian army's aim to attain Full Operational Capability. The vehicles are US Excess Defense Articles (EDAs) which are being procured through the US Department of Defense's Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme.
